Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator safely operates a variety of equipment (mini-ex, backhoes, etc.) used in the construction, maintenance and repair of roads, highways, parking lots and other large site jobs.
Essential Functions

- Must keep building and/or assigned areas of jobsite clean and organized as necessary to maintain a Safe and productive working environment.
- Ensures that proper Safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of the Foreman/General Superintendent, Safety Director or HR manager.
- Operates heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used in road, site or highway construction and paving. such as Dozers, Skid Loaders, Mini Excavators, Back Hoes etc.
- Follows daily procedures and protocols as set forth in job orientations and trainings.
- Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to the supervisor; cleans equipment.
- Assists in training new employees performing the maintenance and repair duties as required or assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Competencies
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce Safety procedures.
- Ability to travel as needed (typically less than 10% of the time).
- 2 years or greater experience with effectively operating heavy construction equipment.
- Capable of climbing a ladder, reaching overhead, bending, pulling on wrenches, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Willing to work outside in all types of weather.
- Ability to work extended or overtime hours as needed.
- In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment and OSHA guidelines.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to hold a Med Card.
- Works well as part of a team.
- Clean driving record.
Work Environment
- The work is regularly performed in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust, asphalt, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
- Occasional exposure to a variety of extreme and loud conditions at construction job sites
Physical Demands

- Physical demands include but are not limited to lifting heavy objects, walking and standing for long periods of time and performing strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
- Lifts, push, pull or carry objects; use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jump, sprint or throw objects.
- Excellent stamina, good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination required.
- Capable of frequently lifting or moving items up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving items up to 100 pounds.
