Title: Housekeeper
Department: Environmental Services / Housekeeping
Reports To: Environmental Services Manager
General hours of work: Monday-Friday 8hr shifts working in the AM & PM with no overnight 3rd shift. Weekend and Holiday work is required. Weekend work for AM & PM shifts have different requirements.
On Call is for Hospital staff is required for the Weekends and Holidays with hourly compensation.
Work-week hours are available for full-time, part-time and PRN status.
Location: Lake City, IA
Locations: Lake View, Gowrie and Rockwell City (part-time only)
Status: Non-exempt
Required Experience: None required. On-the-job training offered.
Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Position Summary: Performs proper cleaning and thorough sanitizing techniques to prevent the spread of infection and cross-contamination and transmission of microorganism which is critical to patient safety and saves lives. Performs a variety of general cleaning tasks to maintain patient rooms, offices, hallways and other assigned areas of the hospital. Clean and service to all areas to assure the safety, health, morale and recovery of patients, visitors and employees by making a clean, attractive, safe environment.
Essential Function:
- Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and ensures adequate stock of supplies.
- Dusts furniture, doors, walls, woodwork, open shelving, mirrors, windows and equipment.
- Dry and wet mopping patient rooms.
- Vacuuming or dry and wet mopping, offices, halls, stairways and public areas.
- Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials.
- Removes waste and soiled linens from work area and places in specified bags or containers.
- Cleans and disinfects all fixtures of sinks, toilets, portable commodes and soiled utility hoppers surfaces.
- Performs terminal cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares room for new occupant; follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms.
Additional Job Requirements:
- Fill out required paperwork for cleaning location.
- Shampoo rugs and furniture.
- Moves furniture and other heavy objects as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
- Cleans vents, fans and other equipment using vacuum machines.
- Cleans fixtures, tops of light fixtures, windows, door frames and high areas using a ladder.
- Changes out privacy curtains using a ladder.
- Promotes good intra and inter hospital communications and relationships at all times.
- Satisfactorily qualifies for the position through an Iowa Criminal History/Dependent Adult Abuse check within the limits of applicable laws.
- Assures patient information is treated as confidential information. Adheres the policies and procedures regarding the HIPAA Guidelines.
- Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings. Attend Departmental meetings as required.
- Maintains established departmental procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, environmental and infection control standards, and hospital policies including compliance policies.

- Basic computer skills for annual education, benefits enrollment, payroll viewing and email communication.
- Through on the job training:
- Proper use of cleaning chemicals
- Operating the various housekeeping equipment

Working Conditions
