JOB SUMMARY:
Perform tasks involving operating one or several types of power equipment such as excavators, trucks, bulldozers, scrapers, compressors, pumps, derricks, shovels, tractors, or front-end loaders to excavate, move, and grade earth, demolish structures, erect structures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide assistance to site superintendent and other supporting construction staff in the field
- Learn and follow safety regulations, monitoring operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met.
- Accurately and efficiently operate different types of heavy equipment.
- Take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
- Load and move dirt, rocks, equipment, and materials using trucks, crawler tractors, power cranes, shovels, graders, and related equipment.
- Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
- Talk to clients and study instructions, plans, and diagrams in order to establish work requirements.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
- Requires the ability to properly wear, use, and maintain personal respirator equipment and other forms of personal protective equipment (PPE) on HAZWOPER sites
- Possess good housekeeping skills with attention to detail on environmental hazardous to reduce personal exposure and potential spreading of hazardous contaminants
- Fuel and lube equipment on a daily basis
- Perform any other duties as assigned by site superintendent or management
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly
- Ability to act calmly under stress and strain
- Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task
- Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety
- Ability to work in a team environment
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required
- Valid Driver’s License required; CDL preferred
- Knowledge of machines and tools including their uses, repair and maintenance and practical applications preferred.
- Minimum of five years’ experience operating equipment
- OSHA 30 hour certification preferred
- HAZWOPER certification preferred
- Experience maintaining equipment preferred
- Operating certificates preferred
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Predominantly field assignments outdoors with potential for lodging to be at a remote camp.
- Outdoor conditions may be subject to changes in weather conditions and noise levels.
- Must be willing and able to travel and work long hours to support rigorous timelines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Working at potentially contaminated sites
- Standing and stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity with good hand-eye coordination and motion control for handling equipment in the field
