Job Location: Vienna Deforest, WI
Calf barn/young cattle worker will play a pivotal role in ensuring the optimal care and well-being of bull calves on milk and post weaned calves. This position involves overseeing daily operations, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and collaborating with veterinary team to support the success of the genomic bull program at ST-Vienna Deforest, WI location.
Animal Care and Husbandry:
Feeding and Nutrition: Manage daily feeding schedules, ensuring proper nutrient intake for calves of varying ages and sizes.
Health Monitoring: Conduct regular health checks, identifying and reporting any signs of illness or abnormalities to the veterinary staff.
Environmental Management: Maintain a clean and sanitary environment, including regular cleaning of stalls, pens, and equipment.
Bedding and Hygiene: Ensure adequate bedding levels and manage waste disposal to prevent disease transmission.
Operational Management:
Protocol Adherence: Strictly follow written protocols related to calf health, ventilation, feeding, and bedding.
Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper functioning of barn equipment, including power washers, milk feeding equipment, bottle and bucket cleaning equipment, and skid steers.
Data Management:
Utilize Excel, Outlook, and other technologies to accurately record and report calf data, including weight, health status, and treatment history.
Safety Practices:
Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols to minimize risks to both animals and staff.
Compliance:
Ensure compliance with relevant animal welfare standards and regulations.
Experience:
Previous experience working with livestock, preferably calves, is highly desirable.
Strong understanding of animal husbandry practices and basic animal health principles.
Skills: Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain a positive and professional attitude. Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in a physically demanding environment.
