Internship Summary :
STIHL Inc. has a full time opening for a Process Engineering Intern in our Accessories Department.
- Develop a mobile hose storage rack for blow molding changeovers. The tasks for this will be interacting with the lead on the floor to design the rack (needs of the customer). Providing a design for review to the lead. Submitting a design for review by the process engineer (CAD best practices and design intent). Developing a set of prints and submitting prints to the fabrication shop. The intern will be responsible for a functional design based on specifications discussed by the lead. The intern will be responsible for producing a working design and having it fabricated by the fabrication shop and / or possible outside manufacturing entities.
- Assist process engineer with developing work instructions and setup sheets for new hot gas welding machine. Tasks for this will include coordinating with process engineer and reviewing the process. Conducting an FMEA (Risk Analysis) with process engineer of possible failure modes in process and setup. Photographing and building a functional set of work instructions based on findings.
- Develop organization method and storage for inspection gauge satellite area between accessories blow molding and quality lab. Communicating with quality department on storage access and design (needs of the customer). Communicating with leads on developing a procedure for utilizing gauge storage area.
- Establish a management system for End-Of-Arm Tooling used for the injection molded parts in Accessories.
- Support transition to electronic work instruction in Accessories. Review current work instructions for accuracy. Any requiring modification will be submitted to process engineering for review.
- Assisting process engineer with coordinating setup and installation of material handling vacuum line replacement or augmentation with outside vendor.
Internship Goals :
Design intent and needs of the customer :
The intent of this goal is understanding the fundamentals of basic design based on feedback from a customer (Process Lead / Setup Tech) and then creating a functional design that will be manufactured into a working piece of equipment that will be utilized for reducing change-over time of the blow molding machines on the floor.
Risk analysis and organization :
The intent of this goal is to understand the risks involved in commissioning a new piece of equipment and developing a process from scratch. This will require conducting a risk analysis to determine possible failure points in daily operation and how to mitigate risks before before the become actualized.
Interdepartmental and outside entity coordination :
The intent of this goal is to have the intern communicate with entities outside of the department. This includes taking customer requirements and communicating with vendors outside of Stihl in order to complete an objective.
