Intern Counselor Description
Intern counselors assist on-site and in all the communities Still Waters serves, which include Richmond, Columbia, Burke, McDuffie counties, in order to provide services to children, adolescents, and adults through our Augusta office. Travel expenses are reimbursed. Counselors are required to do in home counseling sessions and office sessions with clients.
Counselors will place emphasis on prevention and/or behavior modification. The counselors will work with adults and children to promote optimum mental health. May help adults deal with addictions and substance abuse; family, parenting, and marital problems; and children with suicidal ideations; stress management; problems with self-esteem; and issues associated with aging, mental, and emotional health.
Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:
- Act as client’s advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve crisis situations
- Travel to client’s home to provide treatment or shadow counselors as they provide treatment
- Collect information about clients through interviews, observations, and tests
- Counsel clients in individual sessions to help them overcome dependencies; recover from illness and adjust to life
- Observe the development and implementation of treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge
- Evaluate clients physical or mental condition based on review of client information
- Maintain confidentiality of records relating to client’s treatment
- Monitor, evaluate, and record client progress to measurable goals described in treatment and care plan.
- Maintain accurate, thorough documentation that reflects treatment plan goals in Electronic Health Record.
- Attend weekly sessions and clinical supervision with Team Lead
- Complete other clinical or administrative tasks as assigned by Team Lead
- Maintain 8-10 billable hours per week and complete documentation within 72 hours of client session.
Education/ Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Master's Program for counseling or social work.
- Enrolled in internship or practicum as part of a Master's Degree in Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, Counseling Education, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Professional Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Community Counseling
- Masters Degree or pursing a Master’s degree from an accredited institution, majoring in the following fields of study: Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, Counseling Education, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Professional Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Community Counseling
Licensing Requirements:
- Intending to pursue one of the follow professional licenses upon completion of program: LAPC, LPC, LCSW, LMSW, LAMFT, or LMFT
