Daycare Aide

Position Summary

The Daycare Aide ensures that the children at the Stillaguamish Tribal Daycare receive the most loving and nurturing care possible. The Aide is expected to be hands on with the children with “on the floor” interactions with the kids. The intent of the daycare is to create a safe place for children to learn through natural play. The Stillaguamish Tribal Daycare is an intentionally small daycare that focuses on the loving, personal care of the daycare children. The daycare is licensed by the Stillaguamish Tribe to provide care for a maximum of 12 children, ages one month through age 12. Most attendees are age’s infant to pre-K.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• The Daycare Aide will work alongside of other staff members to accomplish the day-to-day tasks of the daycare.
• Provide a continuously nurturing environment.
• Respect and observe children’s interest. Intervene when needed to maintain safety.
• Enhance children’s play with language, toys and activities.
• Be attentive, flexible, and supportive of children and their families.
• Acknowledge feelings with sensitivity and demonstrate appropriate expressions of emotions.
• Encourage and model social behavior that are age and developmentally appropriate.
• Communicate well with parents and other Stillaguamish departments.
• Be kind and courteous to parents and staff of the daycare.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Organizational skills associated with a daycare setting.
• Knowledge of basic duties associated with being a childcare provider.
• Ability to become familiar with the Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians Community and tribal culture and customs.
• Ability to determine methods of modifying inappropriate behavior and encourage learn through play experiences.

Position Qualifications

• One year of daycare experience.
• HIV, First Aid, and CPR Certified or ability to become certified within 6 months.
• Must have the ability to be TB tested.
• Must meet coverage criteria according to the Tribe’s vehicle liability insurance.
• Must be able to pass thorough pre-employment fingerprint background check as well as periodic background testing.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Must possess a valid Washington driver’s license. 

Full time, $24.71/hr
