What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Scientist position at Stillwater Sciences?
This individual may work on a variety of large-scale, multi-disciplinary environmental planning and design projects across urban and wildland areas. Projects typically integrate science-driven spatial or systems analyses for watersheds or landscapes including hydrology, hydraulics, water quality, green infrastructure, conservation design, habitat connectivity, urban biodiversity, or similar. The ideal candidate will have experience with advanced watershed or landscape-scale analysis software and/or willingness and ability to learn new software quickly.
Tasks may include:
- Analysis and planning of multi-benefit green infrastructure, landscape and open space, biodiversity and conservation, and/or water systems programs at the watershed-scale.
- Project design for green infrastructure, ecological restoration, stream and wetland restoration, and/or nature parks and open space.
- Participation in geospatial analysis at local and regional scales, aggregating multi-disciplinary data, and creating integrated systems analyses and models.
- Communicating complex and/or sensitive hydrological and/or ecological concepts to stakeholders through graphics, written narrative, and public speaking.
- Creating graphic and written content for presentations and documents.
Additional skills required:
- Ability to prepare technical reports through summarizing model input/outputs, writing, and preparing/contributing to graphics, slide decks, and summaries.
- Ability to work independently towards a desired outcome.
- Ability to work with and guide technical staff and scientists in planning and design project contexts.
- Advanced writing and editing skills (both grammar and technical).
- Clear and thoughtful communication with team members.
- Skilled in delegation, planning, prioritization, and time management.
- Highly developed project management skills.
Qualifications:
- Masters or Doctorate degree and 3 years professional experience, or comparable.
- Degrees in water resources, ecology, hydrology, environmental science, engineering, urban planning, landscape architecture, or similar preferred.
- Location in the Los Angeles metro area is preferred.
- Strong Excel, Python, MATLAB, R programming skills, or similar.
- Experience with one or more of the following software a plus: EPA SWMM, HEC-HMS, CEQUAL2, HEC-RAS, SRH-2D, Omniscape.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and/or ArcGIS a plus.
Availability, Compensation and Application Details:
- Full-time, exempt position based in Los Angeles, CA.

- $104,000-$122,720 annually; Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
- Hybrid schedule; Bradbury Building Office in Downtown Los Angeles and/or remote days possible.
