Position Summary
The Manufacturing Shop Production Controller is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling the flow of materials and production activities on the shop floor. This role ensures daily production schedules are met efficiently and in alignment with standard manufacturing practices, while also supporting continuous improvement initiatives and compliance with SOPs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute production schedules based on inventory levels, customer orders, and capacity.
- Collaborate with supervisors, leads, and other departments to ensure production targets are met.
- Translate high-level production plans into actionable tasks on the shop floor.
- Implement and uphold standard manufacturing practices, including 5S, visual controls, takt time, and standard work instructions.
- Ensure shop floor adherence to SOPs and collaborate in ongoing SOP development and revisions.
- Monitor WIP (Work-In-Progress) and provide proactive solutions to bottlenecks or production delays.
- Track and report on production metrics (output, downtime, scrap, etc.) to identify improvement areas.
- Assist in the training and onboarding of shop floor personnel in production practices and systems.
- Support and enforce safety, quality, and compliance protocols in alignment with OSHA and internal standards.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Operations, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Experience: 3 years in a production planning, shop supervision, or manufacturing control role, ideally in a job shop or high-mix environment.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and scheduling techniques
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and shop-floor data collection tools
- Ability to read technical drawings, BOMs, and routings
- Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
- Excellent communication and coordination skills across functions
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
