Job Summary:
The assistant manager is responsible for the performance and productivity of the store personnel and the representative to the customer when the manager is not on duty. Should be familiar with all aspects of the operation so they can assume the role of manager on an interim basis. Also supervises specified department operation as directed. Assists associates in daily operation so knowledge of said department is imperative. Must exhibit leadership and independent judgment in managing, training, corrective action and motivating all personnel while upholding the company’s standards and mission. A solid background in the building materials and home improvement industry is also necessary. Requires the ability to interact and communicate well with customers; all store personnel and other management.
Qualifications
Education: Must have a high school education or equivalent and preferably extended education beyond high school.
Training and Experience: A minimum of three years in the building industry or in a management position.
Job Knowledge: Should have a good knowledge of the building material industry and of managing people.
Physical Demands: Work requires some physical effort; involves standing, much walking and medium lifting. Works in and out of an air-conditioned environment. (Important: This job is classified in the physical demands section of the job description [Form IV-31] as constant medium work and occasional heavy work.)
