The Director of Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the quality management program for all data center and mission critical construction projects. This role ensures that all projects meet or exceed client specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. The Director of QA/QC will work closely with project teams, subcontractors, and clients to drive a culture of quality excellence and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Quality Program Development: Establish and maintain a comprehensive QA/QC program that aligns with industry standards, company goals, and client expectations.
- Project Oversight: Ensure all construction projects adhere to quality control processes, specifications, and requirements. Conduct site visits and audits to verify compliance.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement best practices to enhance quality control measures and prevent defects or deficiencies in project execution.
- Inspection & Testing: Oversee all inspection and testing procedures, including materials testing, equipment commissioning, and final system validation.
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and client standards. Maintain accurate and comprehensive QA/QC records.
- Training & Development: Develop and deliver training programs for project teams and subcontractors to enhance quality awareness and accountability.
- Risk Mitigation: Identify potential quality risks and collaborate with project teams to implement proactive solutions.
- Client & Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the primary liaison with clients, regulatory agencies, and third-party inspectors on all quality-related matters.
- Reporting & Metrics: Establish KPIs to track quality performance and provide regular reports to senior leadership on trends, findings, and areas for improvement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of QA/QC experience in construction, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Extensive experience in data center construction and mission-critical facilities.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards, including ISO 9001, LEED, Uptime Institute, and relevant building codes.
- Proven ability to develop and implement quality management programs.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Certifications such as CQM-C (Construction Quality Management for Contractors) or ASQ (American Society for Quality) preferred.
- Analytical Skills – Demonstrated ability to gather, relate and compare data from different sources, ensure data is reliable, complete and accurate. Fully capable in questioning incomplete data on complex construction projects.
- Communications - Demonstrated ability to speak, write and listen in a manner that commands attention and respect. Demonstrated skill at listening and understanding the needs of others. Demonstrated skill at presenting information in a client or owner setting.
- Decision Making – Ability to analyze variables and contingencies, evaluate circumstances, assess potential outcomes and develop a logical and timely solution that is consistent with the needs of the situation and principles of the company.
- Initiative – Demonstrative drive to continually learn new aspects of construction management, professional skills of communication, project management and relationship building.
- Interpersonal and Negotiation Skills – Strong ability to forge solid working, trusting and partnering relationships with subcontractors, vendors and internal staff. - PC Skills – Demonstrated experience and competence in office productivity tools such as Word, Excel, CX Alloy, and P6. Demonstrated experience in estimating and other construction project management software such as MS Project, Bluebeam, and Procore.
- Self-Starter – Demonstrated skill at accomplishing own work without the need for close supervision. Acts based on urgency, client needs and the needs of the firm without always having to ask someone for guidance.
- Time Management – Demonstrated ability and success in accomplishing tasks by established deadlines; demonstrated discipline in using time management tools and techniques to effectively multitask when needed.
