Duties
- Champions “The Layton Way” by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
- Ensures that “Constructing with Integrity” is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
- The Energy Marshall requires many different roles with specific duties to manage the commissioning process during construction from pre-energization through project completion and turn over.
- Managing electrical room access permits and electrical room attendance.
- Ensure compliance with safe work practices during energization and isolation activities.
- Responsible for verifying the commission plan and reviewing quality reports.
- Complete any pre-energization inspections.
- Responsible for the LOTO program on site.
- Review and audit energy isolation procedures to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for energy isolation practices and provide guidance to teams.
- Attends daily and weekly High Risk Activity (HRA) / Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) Meetings and provides procedure preparation support associated with Energy Isolation
- Partner with project teams to identify and implement continuous improvement strategies.
- Communicate complex technical solutions and energy-related concepts to both engineers and non-engineers.
- Audit site practices against established standards as part of the safety assurance role.
- Interpret line drawings and system redundancies to ensure Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) systems are designed and implemented effectively and in compliance with standards.
- Provide expert guidance on energy isolation in environments with multiple energy sources, with a particular focus on electrical systems.
- Serves as an independent authority for stopping all unsafe work practices regarding Energy Isolation.
- Participating in Weekly Safety Meetings
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in energy isolation, safety, or a related field.
- NFPA 70E Certification.
- 7 years commercial construction experience preferred
- Experience with DC construction and commissioning standards and practices.
- Ability to understand and ensure the safe installation of electrical equipment across various voltages, including AC and DC systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teams to drive process improvements.
- Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to a diverse audience.
- Proficiency in auditing site practices against written standards.
- Familiarity with multiple energy sources, particularly in data centers, with an emphasis on electrical systems.
