POSITION : Special Education Supervisor / Director
STARTING DATE : As Soon As Possible
POSITION LENGTH : 52 weeks
SALARY RANGE : $85,000-$100,000
REPORTS TO : Superintendent
QUALIFICATIONS :
1) Master’s Degree in special education or administration with approval as a Supervisor of Special Education and administrative experience is preferred. We are willing to work with a candidate who is in a Special Education leadership program.
2) Three to five years of experience as a special education teacher or a provider of special education services.
3) Interpersonal skills to successfully provide leadership to staff and effectively communicate with students and families.
4) Skills in supervisory functions such as appraisal, team building, continuous improvement, conflict management and problem solving.
5) Knowledge of statutes, regulations, and guidelines regarding special education and other education related areas pertinent to the needs of staff and students.
6) Knowledge and ability to implement district policies and procedures within assigned areas of responsibilities.
7) Ability to work collaboratively with district personnel and community members.
8) Self-directedness, initiative and organization skills when given a variety of responsibilities and assigned tasks / projects.
9) Ability to gather information, analyze data and implement decisions in a leadership capacity and as a member of a team.
10) Demonstrate continuous learning and professional growth through education, training and development experiences.
11) Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
1) Supervises assigned staff through implementation of personal procedures and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
2) Facilitates an effective continuum of support services based on student and constituent needs, continuous improvement effects and data collection processes.
3) Assists with determining needs, planning and / or implementing professional development opportunities.
4) Develops, monitors and implements assigned program budgets, required purchasing and reimbursement procedures with staff.
5) Facilitates the periodic collection of service delivery information required for deployment of resources, Medicaid billing, and implementation of tuition billbacks within the special education claims systems.
6) Provides consultation and technical assistance to assigned staff regarding procedural, legal and compliance issues related to special education and interface with related state and federal mandates.
7) Assists the administration in implementing all policies and / or rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
8) Supervises daily operations of the program which involves assignment of staff, students and parents; maintenance of classroom space and student transportation.
9) Facilitates program and curriculum development with staff through school improvement and student data collection processes delineated by state and / or federal mandates.
10) Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
11) Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
12) Punctual, reliable and predictable attendance is required
13) Other duties as assigned.
