Brief Job Overview/Summary

This position reports to the Director of Athletic Operations. The position will provide athletic training services to Stockton University Athletes, including comprehensive rehabilitation of athletic injuries, coverage of athletic competitions, appropriate medical documentation and referrals to physicians as warranted.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide athletic training services for Intercollegiate, club sport and intramural student-athletes in conjunction with the most recent NATA-BOC Practice Analysis and the physician Plan of Care. This will include evening and weekend hours.
  • Plan and implement comprehensive rehabilitation/ reconditioning programs for injuries/ illnesses sustained by competitive athletes. Document all relevant information for new and existing injuries/illnesses and coordinate all care with the full and part-time athletic training staff.
  • Supervise the athletic training facilities during assigned and established operational hours and follow established rehabilitation and referral procedures. Supervise TES athletic trainers.
  • Collaborate in maintaining the Handbook for Athletic Training Services that incorporates NATA Position Statements and the NCAA Sports Medicine Handbook.
  • Assist in the supervision, interviewing, selection and scheduling of the Athletic Training student worker staff. Assist in monitoring the performance of the student staff and scheduling and teaching sports medicine in-services.
  • Assist with the insurance claims process and provide liaison with health care providers and the university’s student health services. Assist in the inventory and ordering of supplies and maintaining proper usage and certifications of medical equipment.
  • Assist in organizing and administering pre-participation examinations for intercollegiate athletes with the collaboration of Health Services and orthopedic physician groups.
  • Assist with the NCAA drug testing program regarding student athlete education and administration when testing is directed by the NCAA.
  • Assist in developing and updating the Athletic Training Web Page.
  • Maintain NATA-BOC certification as an Athletic Trainer, NJ license as an athletic trainer and the appropriate level of CPR/AED certification.
  • Assist in scheduling and maintaining records for CPR First Aid and AED training courses for athletics staff.
  • Collaborate with the Fitness Coordinator to develop and implement pre-season, in-season and off-season conditioning and injury prevention programs as needed.
  • Drive University vehicles to transport students/staff to on-campus and off-campus events.
  • Support the Athletics and Recreation vision, mission and values and work toward the achievement of identified departmental goals; foster cooperative and supportive working relationships with the staff in the department and contribute to a positive working environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletic Operations and/or the Executive Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation.
  • Stay abreast of NCAA Sports Medicine Guidelines, adhere to the Physician Pan of Care, NJ Athletic Training Practice Act, NATA-BOC Practice Analysis and the rules and regulations of the university, athletics office and the NCAA. Anyone found to be in violation of these rules and regulations may be subject to disciplinary or corrective actions including but not limited to those set in the NCAA enforcement procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field
  • 3 years of experience at the collegiate level as a Certified Athletic Trainer
  • NATA-BOC Certification (National Athletic Trainers Association-Board of Certification)
  • NJ State License (or eligible for) as an Athletic Trainer

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field
  • 5 years as a Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Professional Rescuer CPR/AED certification
