What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overnight Caregiver position at Stone Family?
Our caregivers really enjoy our son who is 37 and is on the spectrum. Adam is typically a joy to be with and has a truly sweet and loving nature. Adam can express his needs and feelings quite well despite being nonverbal. He also understands directions fairly well and is cooperative.
We're looking for someone who has a warm, soothing and patient manner. Adam will go to sleep best if you develop a real caring bond that provides comfort and security.
Additional requirements include:
- Some care giving experience, preferably involving special needs
- Willing to provide toileting (wiping) and bathing support
- Being reliable and requiring limited time off
- Able to stay alert throughout the night
- Own or have exclusive use of a car with insurance
- Live within 25 miles of Delray Beach
- Willing to be finger printed for a Level II background check.
The shift and bedtime routine will begin around midnight with a bath. Then you’ll monitor Adam until he goes to sleep which is usually before 3:00 AM. After Adam is asleep you may relax or engage in an on-line activity. However, you need to continue to monitor Adam and respond quickly if he wakes up or has a seizure.
The shift typically ends at 6 AM. The position is part-time, 3 nights a week (18 hours total) although there is a potential for additional nights in the future.
You’ll receive training on Adam’s bedtime routine and on how to handle his generalized seizures that occur a few times a month.
We'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. Thanks for considering our position!
