Purpose and Scope of Position:
The Director of Procurement and Supply Chain is responsible for managing and optimizing the procurement and supply chain functions to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable operations at the bakery, mill and deli. This role is pivotal in maintaining high-quality raw materials, managing supplier relationships, and overseeing the entire supply chain process, from sourcing ingredients like flour and yeast to ensuring timely deliveries for production needs. The Director will also work to reduce waste, improve operational efficiencies, and support the bakery's growth objectives while maintaining product quality and consistency. The ideal candidate will have extensive background in procurement, supply chain management, and vendor relations, with a proven ability to optimize sourcing strategies and drive operational efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement procurement strategies to ensure the availability of high-quality ingredients, packaging materials, equipment, and services while optimizing costs and minimizing risks. Key areas are in our major ingredients (flour, yeast, oil as well as freight, warehouse space and all consumables).
- Identify and evaluate suppliers, negotiate contracts, and establish strategic partnerships to secure favorable terms and conditions.
- Monitor market trends, supplier performance, and industry developments to identify opportunities for cost savings, quality improvements, and innovation.
- Manage supplier relationships and conduct regular performance reviews to ensure adherence to quality standards, delivery schedules, and contractual obligations.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and finance, to align procurement activities with business objectives and production schedules.
- Manage the transportation and distribution of goods, ensuring timely delivery to all bakery sites and customers.
- Effective use of our ERP system (Aptean) to establish and maintain inventory management systems to optimize stock levels, minimize waste, and ensure product availability.
- Develop and maintain procurement policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline procurement processes, enhance operational efficiency, and support business growth.
- Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management, highlighting key procurement metrics, performance indicators, and strategic initiatives.
- Lead a diverse team of employees within procurement, logistics, warehouse, and inventory.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven history of success in developing and implementing procurement strategies, negotiating contracts, and managing supplier relationships.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and people skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions and levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience in managing diverse teams and driving organizational change.
- Proficiency in inventory management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- The ability to travel is 25% with overnight stays.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field. Master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., CSCP, CPSM) preferred.
- 7 years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, or related field, preferably in the food industry or bakery sector.
Salary : $85,000 - $125,000
