Gameplay Engineer

Stone Kite is a world building studio that thoughtfully develops heroic universes across games, film, TV, comics, audio, and more. Built by veterans from game and entertainment studios such as Marvel, Disney, Pixar, Bungie, and Riot, our team leverages expertise and passion to build worlds that matter.

We're looking for an experienced engineer to help build foundational systems and features to bring our flagship world to life. The ideal candidate will leverage their technical expertise, system design skills and creative intuition to empower a small team to explore bold new ideas with rapid, stable, and joyful workflows.

This role involves a high degree of creative autonomy. You will need to be able to take initiative and work independently, seek out information and feedback to validate your decisions, and pursue alignment with your team, with other teams, and with the project director. Empathetic communication and feedback skills, and a spirit of curiosity are essential for success.

This role is a remote based position.

What You'll Do :

Feature Implementation

  • Using C and Blueprint, implement features and workflows in Unreal Engine to support the goals and deliverables of the prototype team
  • Fix bugs and maintain prototype stability and availability
  • Write documentation for systems and provide direct support to other members of the team
  • Balance rapid iteration with minimizing future tech debt
  • Perform evaluations of technical systems and products and offer a recommendation about their use for prototyping and in production
  • Participate in code reviews and technical standards discussions

Creative Participation

  • Engage in team brainstorming, playtest, and feedback sessions
  • Provide feedback for teams working across different forms of media
  • What You'll Bring :

  • 4 years of experience in game client engineering with at least one shipped title
  • 2 years of experience working as an engineer on action gameplay features
  • Deep proficiency in C and Unreal Engine systems and workflows
  • Skilled with source control and build systems
  • Demonstrates proficiency with the animation pipeline and animator workflows in Unreal Engine
  • Versed with AI systems and concepts and AI workflows in Unreal Engine
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work both autonomously and in a small creative group
  • Excellent communication and feedback skills with a passion for quality and excellence
  • Ability to adapt and problem solve in a fast-paced startup environment

  • The expected salary range for this position is $165,000-200,000. The compensation package will also include a range of generous medical, dental, vision and other perks & benefits. Compensation decisions are determined using a variety of job-related factors such as skill set, geographic location, market demands, experience, and education / certifications. If we extend an offer for employment, we will consider all individual qualifications.
