Our baristas are the heart and soul of the Social Fabric Café. They ensure that each and every one of our guests has a memorable experience that exceeds their expectations by preparing and serving excellent coffee beverages and contributing to a welcoming and fun atmosphere. We aspire to continually be inspired by food and cultures from around the world so we can offer retail items that are appealing, intriguing and delicious!. Social Fabric is a community hub for the residents of the REN building and our many neighbors.
Our menu is full of traditional and creative coffee beverages, fresh-pressed juices, gourmet teas, and enticing food offerings including bomboloni, breakfast burritos, and other morning delights. We also offer a curated collection of retail specialty food items that our guests can take home to create or augment their amazing home kitchen creations.
Compensation:
- $20.76 per hour base wage
- Tip-pool share based on hours worked
- Our tip-pools are a material statement of our values and that while different positions have different duties, every team member in our restaurants shares in the responsibility to provide our guests with an outstanding experience. Our tip-pools reflect this shared responsibility by distributing all tips collected during each two-week pay period evenly to all tip-eligible employees based on hours worked. We embrace the sense of equity that comes from abandoning the, “my ticket, my tips,” attitude in favor of an, “our cafe, our tips,” one.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- 1 year of experience making and serving espresso coffee beverages.
- The ability and desire to contribute to a superior dining and shopping experience for every Social Fabric guest by anticipating and responding to their needs.

- A desire to learn, grow, and improve as a barista and part of the café team.
- A willingness to follow all food and workplace safety policies and procedures to ensure the health and safety of our guests and team.
- A sense of responsibility to ensure cash and credit card payments are handled correctly.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS:
- Become familiar with Social Fabric’s culture, values, and mission and how they contribute to our guest-first attitude.
- Learn how we create phenomenal coffee beverages and make that the foundation for outstanding guest experiences.
- Learn our menu items and about the high quality ingredients that go into our beverage and food offerings.
- Learn to pull the perfect shot in alignment with Social Fabric standards and the specifications for our espresso drinks.
- Learn the specifications and procedures for all of our espresso drinks and other beverages.
- Learn about our seasonal menu tempo and how we feature special items throughout each year.
- Develop an understanding of how we evaluate performance and provide daily constructive feedback.
- Learn our daily operating procedures and how the Barista role fits into the cafe as a whole.
- How we turn guest complaints into brand loyalty opportunities.
- Learn about Social Fabric’s community giving programs.
- Become familiar with our employee policies and practices including dress code, grooming requirements, and scheduling.
- How to use Toast tablets and handhelds as both our point-of-sale (POS) and time clock systems.
- Be introduced to our periodic inventory process.
- Learn about the larger Social Fabric group including our full-service restaurants, grocery store kiosks, and retail products.
Physical Demands:
- Baristas are expected to work on their feet for up to 3 hours at a time.
- The position requires frequent crouching, lifting and carrying.
- Bartender/Baristas must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without undue strain.
- This position also requires periodic heavier team lifting which should be done with assistance from a coworker.
- This position requires repetitive hand and wrist motion.
- Must be able to work with illuminated screens.
Work Environment:
Baristas are expected to work shifts during all hours of operation including early mornings, weekends, and most holidays. Work is performed around potentially hazardous equipment including espresso machines, counter-top ovens, and juicers.
