As Activities Assistant your primary responsibility is to provide a robust activity program to residents in our retirement community. Our Activities Assistant will work closely with the Activity Director and will provide activities in both the assisted living and memory care settings. Activities will be designed with a therapeutic approach to address the social, emotional cognitive, physical, and spiritual needs of each resident. There will be times when the Activity Assistant will drive residents to and from appointments and on outings.
Job duties include, but aren't limited to :
Ensure scheduled activities occur as posted, in a timely manner. Get other employees involved in activities, be calm, yet enthusiastic and engage with all residents according to their ability, cognition, and desire. Gather and escort residents to and from activity programs.
Document resident participation via progress notes & weekly activities family emails. Including residents’ reaction or behavioral concerns during activities.
Report any changes in resident’s activity participation as well as any physical, cognitive or emotional fluctuations, to the Health and Wellness Director or Life Enrichment Director
Provide daily encouragement to residents for involvement in activities via verbal invitations, reminders, and escorts in both group and individual activities
Assist residents who need additional guidance during an activity
Keep activities areas organized, neat, clean and accessible
Assist residents when loading and unloading bus / van
Deliver mail and packages to residents when needed
Promote teamwork, inter-departmentally and intra-departmentally
Work with care staff to assist with resident daily activities and needs
Communicate professionally and effectively with residents, families and co-workers
Requirements :
Qualifications and Experience
Eager to Learn and to be a Part of a Strong Team
Pass Background Check and Motor Vehicle Driving Record Background Check
Pass Routine TB Test
Able to use general office equipment and computer systems as required
Must demonstrate dependable, regular attendance
Must be able to communicate and function productively on an interdisciplinary team
Has familiarity and willingness to work with elderly population, including people with dementia
