 Stoneham High School is seeking a Long Term Substitute Teacher for an ELL position.  This position has an immediate start date with a duration until the end of the school year, June 17, 2025.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Maintains a valid Massachusetts DESE certification as an ESL teacher
  2. Proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to: administrators, parents, teachers, students, other school staff and visitors.
  3. Possess good communication skills both verbal and written.
  4. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  5. A sense of humor and a proven ability to work in a polite and friendly manner with all staff members, students, and with the larger educational community.
  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school department may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO:

Building Principal & Assistant Superintendent

DUTIES

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards
  2. Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the district’s/school’s instructional program so as to ensure that students meet and exceed learning targets
  3. Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies
  4. Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area
  5. Administer academic and language assessments (ACCESS, WIDA screeners) for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
  6. Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress
  7. Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies
  8. Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students
  9. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment
  10. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students
  11. Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
  12. Assignment includes ELL support classes as well as Co-Taught content based courses.

 

In addition to meeting the state licensure requirements, ESL teacher candidates must ensure they meet the following additional qualifications:

  • Outstanding personal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • The ability to keep concise records
  • A sensitivity to the development stages and well-being of ELLs
  • The ability to incorporate current technology into the classroom environment
  • The ability to facilitate group discussion, analyze situations, and draw conclusions
  • The ability to work with a diversity of individuals and groups
  • Excellent problem solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans
  • The ability to adapt to changing work priorities and maintain flexible working hours
  • The ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships
