EC Bus Monitor (2 Hours)

Nature of Work
Assist school the bus driver in maintaining order while the bus is in operation; maintain proper records and documentation; assist student loading, unloading, seating arrangements, and discipline as required in the transportation of students with special transportation needs.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
- Assist the driver in maintaining discipline on the school bus; monitor and assist students while the bus is in operation.
- Consult with documentation of student information and record- keeping.
- Assuring students are seated appropriately as specified in their individual plans including regular seating, STAR seat, belts, harness, wheelchair and secured as required.
- Communicate with classroom aides, teachers, and principals concerning student background, medical problems and behavior as appropriate
- Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures
- Assist handicapped children on and off the bus and monitor children on the bus. Assure responsible adult meets students leaving the bus
- Attend training courses as assigned (bus monitor training prior to starting work and at the beginning of each school year thereafter).
- Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements
Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking. Position will require the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing and the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. Work will entail bending, squatting, crawling, climbing and reaching. Must be able to pull students in a wheelchair onto the bus from the bus lift in a wheelchair for loading and push students onto the lift in a wheelchair for unloading (and secure the wheelchair as required when in position on the bus). Must also be physically able to evacuate students from the bus in an emergency.
