Per Diem Screener Clerk - Variable Shifts - Includes Weekend/Holiday Hours - Eastern Long Island Hospital

Position Summary

This position requires the Screener Clerk to actively greet all persons entering the front or ED entrances. The Screener Clerk actively screens all the following, but not limited to, personnel, medical staff, visitors, patients, and contracted vendors. Screening duties include, but is not limited to, using badge pass system to provide patients, visitors and vendors with visitor pass. The Screener Clerk will be working in a potentially high exposure risk environment with known and unknown associated health risks. Individuals with underlying health conditions should consider these risks prior to accepting this position.

Please Note: This is a Union position.

Duties of a Screener Clerk may include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the smooth flow of patients, visitors and employees entering hospital building/premises/property.
  • Screens individual visiting facility
  • Understands and demonstrates the use of infection control requirements for cleaning the temperature scanner. Ability to verbalize to individuals visiting the facility the importance of infection control practice (i.e., hand hygiene, properly wearing masks, etc.)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of documentation requirements when utilizing the Visitor/Patient Screening Tool (badge pass or equivalent) for individuals and/or patients visiting the facility.
  • Demonstrates ability to politely not allow visitors entry into the facility if screening criteria are not met, and explains to visitor why entry is not allowed
  • Required to work in a variety of environments designated by the hospital.
  • Will contact nursing supervisor if concerns/issues arise pertaining to individuals visiting facility
  • Maintains confidentiality of facility employees and visitors
  • Performs clerical tasks as required
  • Will maintain professional appearance as designated by department head
  • Maintain order and cleanliness
  • Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department
  • Rotates within the department and by shift as required
  • Maintains ethical relationships
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental rules and regulations
  • Participate in in-service programs
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

  • High School diploma
  • Clerical skills
  • Must be able to use computer, photocopy machine
  • Sound decision making and judgment
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Ability to adjust to changes in routine, assignment, and hospital needs
  • Ability to use temperature taking devices (training provided)\
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of hospital /inpatient care contact experience

Physical Demands:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with patients, office staff and medical providers. The employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and use stairs in an emergent situation
  • Must be able to walk, carry equipment and reach overhead
  • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing

  • This function/position maybe designated as “essential.” This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island and related facilities.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBEILH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Your total compensation goes beyond the number in your paycheck!

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Eastern Long Island’s Employee Health Services *
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

  • The Human Resources department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

With 70 beds, SBELIH is Suffolk County’s first hospital, serving the North Fork since 1905.
