Position Summary
At the Long Island State Veterans Home, our Audiologist is a valuable member of our team, who provides high quality and compassionate care to our residents and registrants, with the highest degree of integrity and respect. Our Audiologist provides audiology services to our residents and registrants as requested by a medical provider, or as needed.
Duties of an Audiologist may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams of the LISVH SNF and LISVH ADHC tp provide audiology services to our residents and registrants as requested by a medical provider, or as needed
- Conduct audiologic testing as requested and follow up all requests and provide recommendations as stated in the LISVH Audiology Services Policy and Procedure, in a timely manner.
- Conduct examinations in the Audiologist's office located at the LISVH which contains a soundproof booth and audiological equipment. All equipment will be utilized in accordance with established standards and criteria for examination. The LISVH is to maintain equipment and annual calibrations.
- Fit residents /registrants requiring hearing aids as a result of the audiological examination. Following appropriate medical clearance, an ear mold impression will be taken. The Audiologist will then proceed to order the appropriate type and brand of hearing aid for the resident/registrant.
- Provide a signed written report of the examination, a copy of the audiogram findings and recommendations which become a part of the resident/registrant's medical record.
- Dispense hearing aids to residents/registrants and ensure that instruction on use of the hearing aid be given to the resident and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the appropriate Unit and the registrant and LISVH ADHC staff.
- Educate resident/registrants and family member (as needed) on use of the hearing aid provided to the resident/registrant.
- Provide follow-up visits with resident/registrant within one month of receiving the hearing aid to foster proper use and maximum benefit from the hearing aids
- Work collaboratively with Finance and the Business Office related to resident/registrants billing for audiology services
- Collaborate with Northport VAMC Audiology for assisting of the procurement of the hearing aid and services to which the veteran may be eligible.
- Provide services for hearing aids to LISVH SNF residents and LISVH ADHC registrants as needed. If a hearing aid malfunctions, the Nursing Health Unit Coordinator directly notifies the Audiologist to schedule a visit and/or replacement of the device.
- Be responsible for evaluating and maintaining supplies and ordering supplies as needed.
- Report directly to the LISVH Medical Director.
- Follow the LISVH Audiology Services Policy and Procedure pertaining all issues regarding audiological services for the LISVH.
- Maintain timekeeping in accordance with company policy.
- Comply with standards of practice as related to the medical record.
- Adhere to all HIPAA Guidelines.
Working Conditions
Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries and illness. May be exposed to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
Required Qualifications
Masters in Audiology, Valid NYS Audiology license, Valid NYS Hearing Aid dispensing License, ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence, Experience working with Geriatric population at least 2 years, Experience working in Skilled Nursing Facility at least 2 years
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with working with Adult Day Health care, Experience working with VA audiology, Member of American Speech, Language and Hearing Association, Experience in doing Nursing / staff education related to hearing devices care and management, Experience and knowledge with Veterans with disability, Experience maintaining Audiology equipment, Experience with Electronic Medical Record

- Essential Position: This position has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. This means that when the Long Island State Veterans Home is faced with an emergency, employees in such positions are required to remain at their work location or to report to work.
- The LISVH is a 24/7 skilled nursing facility. As such, all positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary to meet the operating needs of the facility.
Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:
Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from the Long Island State Veterans Home Employee Health Department, clear a background investigation, submit three (3) written references, and provide a copy of the required license(s)/certificate(s).
