The Division of Undergraduate Education at Stony Brook University is excited to announce an opening for a Lead Academic Advisor for our University Scholars program!
Responsibilities
The Lead Academic Advisor provides individual academic advising to undergraduates in an assigned cohort, supporting their academic success and growth. The Advisor may also teach a student success course, assist with orientation and registration, and plan engaging activities and events throughout the academic year. This position will involve developing and implementing advising strategies, building connections with faculty, staff, and students, and fostering an environment that strengthens student satisfaction and retention. Additionally, the incumbent will coordinate a functional assignment with activities that contribute to student success and meet organizational goals.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent student service and interpersonal skills, combined with strong organizational and time-management abilities and exceptional attention to detail. The role requires the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team, applying a problem-solving approach.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three (3) years of full-time experience in academic advising, counseling, or student services in an educational setting. (Graduate student experience will be considered). Experience coordinating projects, programs, and/or events.Â
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in higher education, student affairs, social work, counseling, or related discipline. Experience at the college or university level working with undergraduate students. Academic advising experience in a college or university setting. Experience teaching student-development related courses, facilitating workshops or leading presentations. Experience interacting with a diverse student population in an academic environment.
