The Director of the Office of Health Equity and Climate Medicine Research is a pivotal leadership role dedicated to advancing Stony Brook Medicine’s commitment to health equity and climate medicine through innovative research and strategic collaborations. The Director reports to the Chief Health Equity Officer and Chief Diversity Officer and oversees two team members. Oversight of the research mission of the office, and developing and implementing a comprehensive research agenda that addresses the intersections of health equity and climate change is a significant focus of this position.
The incumbent will work closely with a diverse range of stakeholders, including academic institutions, community organizations, government entities, and healthcare providers, to foster partnerships that enhance our understanding of the health impacts of climate change on vulnerable populations. Additionally, they will need to effectively convey complex concepts to various audiences, including policymakers, community members, and academic peers, and engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including community organizations, academic institutions, and government agencies. As such, collaboration and excellent written and verbal communication are critical qualifications, as well as an exceptional leader who inspires and motivates a diverse team. The incumbent will need to possess strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, with a focus on translating research into practice. Portraying a strong commitment to advancing health equity and addressing the health impacts of climate change, particularly for marginalized and vulnerable populations is essential.
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume) :
- Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Public Health, Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Five (5) years of full-time relevant research experience, with demonstrated expertise in health equity, climate change, and public health.
- Experience working with the social determinants of health.
- Experience with research methodologies, data analysis, and evaluation techniques.
- Project management experience.
- Experience with grant writing and securing funding for research initiatives.

Special Notes :
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
This position is based in Stony Brook, New York. This position may be eligible to participate in a remote work pilot program, which allows for up to 5 remote days per pay period. Occasional travel may be required for conferences, community engagement activities, and partnership meetings.
