Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse, or LPN, works under the supervision of the RN Team Leader. Functions within the team to provide total patient care. Assists the registered nurse in planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care of assigned patients. Performs clinical procedures permitted within the scope of practice, and in accordance with the policies of the Nursing Department. Promotes cooperation, a positive attitude and creates a safe environment for both patients and staff. Responsible for knowing and adhering to established hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.
Duties of an LPN may include the following but are not limited to :
- Assists the RN Team Leader in utilizing the nursing process to provide patient care
- Keeps RN Team Leader informed regarding problems and needs of district
- Utilizes equipment and technology to implement nursing interventions and / or treatments according to Hospital practices and policies and procedures
- Recognizes changes in patients' physical and psychosocial conditions and reports findings to RN
- Assists in evaluating the quality and outcome of patient care
- Provides care for patients undergoing clinical procedures
- Administers medication safely and within the scope of practice and established protocols
- Performs procedures related to diseases / conditions in accordance with established policies and procedures, and within scope of practice
