Position Summary
Under the direction of the Vice President for Patient Services, the Nurse Manager assumes 24-hour responsibility in managing the human and material resources of the Nursing Unit to provide quality patient care and an environment conducive to personnel growth and satisfaction. He / she is responsible for knowledge of and contribution to departmental and organizational goals and for assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating all aspects of patient care. The Nurse Manager promotes cooperation, a positive attitude and creates a safe environment for both patients and personnel. He / she is responsible for knowing and adhering to established hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.
Duties of a Nurse Manager may include the following but are not limited to :
Serve as a role model and leader to staff, behaving in a way that is consistent with Hospital values and sets a positive example.
Collaborates and cooperates across departments and disciplines to solve problems and facilitate processes.
Fosters open, direct communication between personnel, patients, and physicians for the betterment of patient care and the professional environment.
Responsible for the direction, supervision, and coordinator of all nursing activities relating to patient care in his / her unit.
Enforces high patient care standards and satisfaction.
Acts as a teacher and mentor to staff, helping personnel to develop global perspectives, critical thinking, and clinical skills.
Ensures adequate resources through accurate forecasting and close monitoring of supplies.
Monitors operating and capital expenditures, including equipment, payroll, and overtime usage.
Acts as the decision maker and takes responsibility for both the successes and the failures of a unit.
Required Qualifications :
- Current licensure to practice professional nursing in New York State
- Minimum 5 years progressive nursing experience
- Progressive leadership experience
- Willingness for continued learning
- Excellent organizational skills
- Standing / walking 50% of the time
- Ability to occasionally lift heavy objects
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association
