The Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the Renaissance School of Medicine (RSOM) at Stony Brook University invites applications for a SUNY PRODiG-Plus Fellowship . The SUNY Promoting Recruitment Opportunity Diversity Inclusion and Growth Plus (PRODiG-Plus) Fellows Program designed to (1) increase the number and share of excellent diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and (2) strengthening the pipeline for retention and support of these candidates.The PRODiG-Plus Fellows Program offers a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track position at the Postdoctoral Associate level to commence in Fall 2025. PRODiG-Plus Fellows will be a part of a mentored research environment and will engage in a scholarship that represents key areas in Stony Brook’s current and growing strengths, bringing a commitment to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) through research, teaching, and service. Following the fellowship period, Fellows with successful performance will be invited to join the tenure-track faculty at Stony Brook University through an internal promotion process . Candidates with expertise in the areas of microbiology, microbial pathogenesis, and immunology are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will have demonstrated excellence in innovative research and scholarship, the potential to contribute to the teaching mission of the Department, and plans to contribute to DEI initiatives within the campus and/or SUNY community.
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology along with the adjacent Center for Infectious Diseases provide a highly interactive scientific community and promote interactions with faculty throughout the RSOM and University. The Department provides a supportive mentoring environment to foster success and the University offers many opportunities for professional development. State-of-the-art core facilities are available to support research, including microscopy, animal maintenance, flow cytometry, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, and biosafety level 3 containment.

Required Qualifications
- Be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.
- Have a PhD or MD degree (or equivalent terminal degree) from an accredited institution completed prior to start date
- Demonstrate personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community. Such experience may include, but is not limited to, an academic/scholarly track record focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion; work, volunteer/unpaid/community service; or related experience/expertise in serving underserved or vulnerable areas and/or populations.
- Have at least two years of postdoctoral experience.
- Demonstrate a strong track record of research, as evidenced by publication record, research presentations, awards, funding, and compelling vision for future research and funding.
- Current SUNY students, alumni, and/or fellows.
- From a low-income background (e.g., Pell-eligible as undergraduates), were first-generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor’s degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni, or are veterans.
- Research expertise in areas that complement and expand upon existing departmental strengths in microbial pathogenesis and immunology.
