Required Qualifications (as Evidenced By An Attached Resume)

Must have completed their doctoral degree requirements inclusive of completing an APA-accredited internship program. Experience providing short-term and group psychotherapy in a community or university mental health setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a university or college mental health setting with a diverse student body. Experience providing risk assessment in an outpatient treatment setting.Training and experience conducting workshops and/or outreach programming.Experience supervising or teaching practicum students.Proficiency in a language other than English (e.g. Spanish, Korean, Japanese, and/or Chinese).

Brief Description Of Duties

The primary goal of the Psychology Fellowship is to prepare the psychology fellow with specific skills in providing individual and group therapy, crisis services, and outreach programming within the context of a diverse university population to become eligible to obtain their psychology license. We provide fellows with a range of experiences in the context of a supportive learning environment.Postdoctoral fellows are given increasing amounts of responsibility and autonomy as the year progresses, commensurate with their satisfactory participation in the program. Fellows are considered full members of staff and will deliver the full range of clinical services under supervision by our team. The fellowship will provide postdoctoral clinical hours and supervision necessary for licensure. Fellows must obtain NYS Psychology licensure within 2 years of employment. Postgraduate fellows receive 2 hours of individual supervision per week from licensed psychologists. Supplemental supervision is provided for additional activities such as co-leading groups or conducting outreach.

The incumbent plays a crucial role as a team member within Student Health, Wellness & Prevention Services. In this capacity, they will collaborate with other team members to collectively contribute to the overall functioning and effectiveness of the services provided. This involves actively participating in team meetings, sharing insights, and engaging in collaborative decision-making processes. The incumbent's role extends to fostering a cooperative and supportive atmosphere, ensuring seamless teamwork, and collectively working towards the common goals and objectives of Student Health, Wellness & Prevention Services.

Duties Include

  • Provide direct clinical services, including initial consultation, brief psychotherapy, group therapy, consultation, and crisis intervention to a diverse undergraduate and graduate student population.
  • Participate in outreach services in collaboration with the Center for Prevention and Outreach
  • Provide clinical supervision to an extern.
  • Participate in training, interdisciplinary case consultation meetings, social justice seminars, and administrative team meetings.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff, including psychiatry and case management. Other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Professional Development and Committee Involvement: Participate in opportunities that promote your learning, growth, and development (i.e. classes, training, committee, webinar, etc.). Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas outside of your individual unit/department (i.e. campus wide traditions, events, programs, etc.).
  • Other duties or projects assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission. Evening and weekend work may be required at times.

Special Notes

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
