Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Self-Storage Facility Associate to manage customer transactions, rent storage units, and assist with minor maintenance tasks. This role is ideal for an individual with prior customer service experience, a keen attention to detail, and the ability to handle various responsibilities related to the operation of a self-storage facility.
In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring smooth daily operations, from receiving payments and renting units to performing minor “make-ready” tasks to keep the facility in top condition. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a proactive attitude, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
• Customer Service & Unit Rentals:
• Greet customers, assist with renting storage units, and provide detailed information about available sizes, pricing, and services.
• Process new rentals, including completing rental agreements, explaining terms, and ensuring that customers fully understand how to access their storage unit.
• Answer customer inquiries via phone, email, or in person, and assist with any issues or concerns related to storage.
• Payment Processing:
• Accurately receive payments for rentals and services, including handling cash, credit card transactions, and managing accounts.
• Maintain accurate records of payments and update customer accounts in the facility’s management system.
• Follow up on overdue payments and assist with the collection process as needed.
• Minor Maintenance & Make-Ready Tasks:
• Perform light maintenance and cleaning duties to ensure the facility is presentable and well-maintained.
• Prepare storage units for new customers by conducting “make-ready” tasks such as cleaning, sweeping, and ensuring that units are in good condition.
• Report any major maintenance or repair issues to the facility manager for resolution.
• Facility Security & Monitoring:
• Ensure that all security systems are functioning, including surveillance cameras, gates, and lighting.
• Conduct routine checks of the facility to ensure it is secure, safe, and free of any hazards.
• Inventory & Supplies Management:
• Assist with inventory management for retail items, such as locks, packing supplies, and insurance.
• Restock items as necessary and maintain organized displays in the office.
• Record Keeping & Documentation:
• Update customer files and rental agreements in the facility’s database.
• Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
• Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience in customer service, retail, or facility management. Prior experience in a self-storage or property management role is a plus.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers, vendors, and team members.
• Customer-Focused: Strong customer service skills, with a friendly, approachable demeanor and the ability to resolve issues effectively.
• Organizational Skills: Ability to stay organized, manage multiple tasks, and keep accurate records.
• Basic Maintenance Skills: Ability to perform light maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, unit preparation, and minor repairs.
• Computer Skills: Basic knowledge of office software and self-storage management software (or the ability to learn quickly).
• Dependability: Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move boxes or small furniture, and perform routine physical tasks (e.g., cleaning, sweeping, light repairs).
Additional Requirements:
• A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. (Closed Major holidays)
