Job summary:
The Driver Manager is responsible for working with drivers by scheduling transportation activities including assigning loads and equipment, along with handling any issues that arise with the drivers. This role involves communicating with members of the Dispatch department, drivers, customers, and internal teams to ensure timely deliveries and efficient service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Freight Planning: Plan and tender freight load to drivers daily, ensuring all shipments are scheduled, assigned to driver’s based on HOS and confirmed in a timely manner.
- Assign trailer usage and trailer washes
- Utilize dispatch software and systems to update and maintain accurate records of trucking activities, including driver assignments, routes, and delivery status.
- Monitor and track the progress of truck drivers using GPS systems and other tracking tools, ensuring adherence to established timelines and customer requirements.
- Optimize the use of available resources, including drivers, equipment, and fuel, to maximize operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Communication: Monitor the Dispatch emails, Teams, Samsara messaging and other communication forms to provide accurate, reliable and responsive communication to drivers, customers and the S&H team.
- Problem Solving: Identify potential challenges in freight movement and collaborate with drivers, co-workers and other departments to create solutions before issues arise.
- Resolve issues or challenges that may arise during transportation, such as route changes, traffic delays, or mechanical breakdowns, by communicating with drivers and offering appropriate solutions.
- Cross-Train and Fill in: Be familiar with other dispatch-related roles and assist in covering duties during absences.
- After-hours: This position will require that you be on an on-call rotation for nights and weekends. Adjustments may need to be made due to changes at the Customer, HOS issues, etc.
- Other duties as needed and assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in dispatch or a similar role within the logistics or transportation industry preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: CDL-A with tanker endorsement preferred.
- Leadership Skills: Proven experience in leading a team, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop strategies to improve efficiency and performance.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with dispatch software and transportation management systems (TMS). Samsara preferred, google sheets and Microsoft Office.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and handle stress in a fast-paced environment.
- Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and provide support in all areas within the department.

Working Conditions:
- Hours: Full-time 45 plus, position with the possibility of extended hours based on operational needs.

Hourly position range: $24.00 - $30.00 based on a combination of experience, education, and work history
