StoreEase Self Storage is seeking to hire an Accountant to join our team at our corporate office in Birmingham, AL. The Accountant will be responsible for managing and executing accounting processes related to the onboarding process for new properties coming into the portfolio. This role will collaborate closely with internal teams as well as property owners. This role is best for someone who thrives on a checklist and enjoys streamlining processes for efficiency.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements:
Property Onboarding:
- Work directly with the Transitions Team on all financial items needed.
- Gather necessary documentation from property owner groups needed to establish operating bank accounts and merchant service accounts.
- Set up property tracking information in accounting ERP and other software (NetSuite, Tipalti, Bill Expense and Spend, Notion, Etc.)
- Research sales tax implications for each location and revenue stream associated with a property and advise property owner on establishing accounts.
- Transfer all utilities associated with a property for billing and payment purposes.
Property Accounting:
- Work with property accountants to reconcile daily cash balances for managed properties.
- Assist property accountants with discrepancies between the bank accounts and the PMS (StorEdge)
- Responsible for full cycle accounting of all new build facilities through the construction phase
- Responsible for all property financials for the immediate period following a go-live date.
- Reconcile opening balances for transitioned properties.
- Set up necessary accounting workbooks needed for close out.
- Serve as a back up for Accounts Payable as needed.
Compliance and Controls:
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in accounting and the storage industry.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with other departments to ensure controls are adequate.
- Provide feedback to leadership on trends and opportunities for improvement in processes.
- Assist with other special projects as assigned.
Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- 1-3 years of experience
Useful skills and abilities:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and treasury operations
- Proficiency in accounting software (Oracle NetSuite preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Understanding of various business structures
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Experience in property management accounting a plus.
