Job Summary: The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving new business opportunities and building strategic partnerships. The BDM works closely with the CEO, management team, office staff, and proposal coordinator to maintain a strong business development pipeline. This role involves identifying and responding to RFPs, attending professional events, and promoting the company's services to potential clients.
Skills & Experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Professional Engineering licensure (or willingness to obtain).
- 4 years of experience in business development or sales, preferably in civil engineering or related fields.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Security clearance or background check (for security-sensitive positions).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in engineering, business, marketing, or communications.
- Experience with subsurface utility engineering.
- Familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce.
Job Requirements:
General:
- Strong understanding of the company’s services and industry.
- Familiarity with government contracting (federal, state, local).
- Basic knowledge of relevant industry standards (CI/ASCE 38-22) or willingness to learn.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PDF editing).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Physical:
- Primarily office-based work, involving sitting or standing for extended periods.
- Occasional light lifting (up to 20 pounds).
- Repetitive hand movements.
Work Environment:
- Office setting with occasional travel (including overnight stays).
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the company’s business development efforts.
- Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, including contracts, partnerships, and markets.
- Promote and advocate for the company’s services and industry standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and government entities.
- Pursue opportunities before RFPs, RFIs, or bids are published.
- Track and maintain RFP and proposal databases.
- Marketing and Business Development Activities:
- Attend conferences and participate in professional organizations.
- Contribute to proposal development and submission.
- Coordinate resources or prequalification needs for proposals.
- Deliver presentations to clients and at professional events.
- Perform competitor and market analysis, gathering intelligence on customers, pricing, and procurement trends.
- Attend prequalification meetings, review proposal feedback, and analyze scores.
- Identify business risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Assist with contract administration and procurement processes.
- Collaborate on developing effective business, pricing, technical, and operational strategies.
Salary : $125,000 - $170,000
