The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing proposals, contracts, permits, and reports; consulting with clients; and drafting maps. This role involves overseeing field surveys and recording data of marked utilities after they have been located using various electronic tools.
This position requires cross-training in utility locating theory, including surface, subsurface, and aerial utilities such as gas, water, sewer, phone, power, and CATV lines. Travel may be required depending on project locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide daily direction and leadership to assigned field crews, ensuring quality and adherence to survey methodologies. Train and mentor junior-level employees.
- Read and interpret plans, including site, boundary, highway, profile, and cross-sections, and pipeline plans.
- Oversee field data collection processes, including total station usage, leveling, traversing, stadia, topographic mapping, interpreting control point records, locating points, and implementing staking and marking strategies.
- Understand and apply utility locating procedures while following standard operating procedures for: Field Targeting, Locating, Targeting, Field Sketching, Test Hole Documentation.
- Ensure the correct use, technique, and maintenance of all survey and locating equipment.
- Collaborate with the branch manager (SULM) and CADD manager to oversee crews and projects, ensuring QA/QC procedures and data accuracy.
- Follow correct administrative procedures.
- Assist in project reviews and evaluations.
