The Assistant Survey/Project Manager is responsible for preparing proposals, contracts, permits, and reports; consulting with clients; and drafting maps. This role includes overseeing field surveys and recording data of marked utilities after they have been located using various electronic tools. Additionally, the position requires cross-training in utility locating theory, including surface, subsurface, and aerial utilities such as gas, water, sewer, phone, power, and CATV lines. Travel may be required depending on project locations.

Some of the Responsibilities of the Assistant Survey/Project Manager include:
- Provide daily direction and leadership to assigned field crews, ensuring quality and adherence to survey methodologies. Train and mentor junior-level employees.
- Read and interpret plans, including site, boundary, highway, profile and cross-sections, and pipeline plans.
- Oversee field data collection processes, including total station usage, leveling, traversing, stadia, topographic mapping, interpreting control point records, locating points, and implementing staking and marking strategies.
- Understand and apply utility locating procedures while following standard operating procedures for:
- Field Targeting
- Locating
- Targeting
- Field Sketching
- Test Hole Documentation
- Ensure the correct use, technique, and maintenance of all survey and locating equipment.
- Collaborate with the branch manager (SULM) and CADD manager to oversee crews and projects, ensuring QA/QC procedures and data accuracy.
- Follow correct administrative procedures.
- Assist in project reviews and evaluations.
Some of the Requirements/Qualifications of the Assistant Survey/Project Manager include:
- Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree, or certification in Surveying or a related field.
- PLS, LS, or PSM licensure in at least one state.
- High proficiency with data collectors, total stations, and GPS/GNSS.
- Knowledge of CI/ASCE 38-22 Standard or willingness to learn.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, records, and plan sets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PDF editing tools.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in field survey and/or engineering.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred but Not Required:
- PLS, LS, or PSM licensure in multiple states.
- Experience with Carlson Survey data collector software.
- Background in utility systems, mapping, or surveying.
- Experience in utilities or construction.
- Proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of Esri ArcGIS.
Work Environment:
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, if necessary.
- Willingness to work in confined spaces.
Salary : $115,000 - $135,000
