A Brief Overview
Mental Health Technician will engage patients in and facilitate activity/recreation groups, assist in learning/practicing coping skills, and overall furthering patient's treatment.

What you will do
- Helps plan and implement therapeutic groups and group activities and provides patient supervision.
- Documents on patient record in a timely, accurately and legible manner in accordance with unit/department guidelines.
- Assumes responsibility for patient safety by utilizing appropriate channels to communicate patient safety and appropriate bodies.
- Interacts therapeutically with patients on 1:1 basis as appropriate.
- Uses therapeutic interventions to assist patients in relating appropriately with other people and with the environment.
- Encourages patient’s independence by motivating, setting limits, supporting, guiding, and comforting.
- Assists with the orientation of patients/significant others to the unit and program.
- Readily aids other staff members in completing patient care assignments.
- Actively participates in unit/department staff meetings.
- Understands and shows respect for patient rights including confidentiality of patient information.
- Remains updated on unit/department/Medical Center issues by reading email, attending staff meetings, reading minutes, reading memos and other forms of communication.
- Strives to provide the best quality of care.
- Completes mandatory in-services annually.
- Maintains a pleasant work environment by being honest, courteous, respectful, and supportive to everyone.
- Responsible for completion of the mental health classes within 6 months of hire. Assist in orientation of personnel or students to department routine and procedures.
