A Brief Overview
Greets all patients and visitors to unit. Keeps visitors/family informed of patient progress. Provides clerical/secretarial support to clinical staff. Answers the telephone and takes detailed messages. Responsible for managing PAR levels and ordering all unit supplies.

What you will do
- Maintains department specific checklists and logs (including Quarterly Expired Supplies, Cleaning logs, Biomedical/Facilities Management Repairs, Information Services Request logs, and conducts department specific Environment of Care inspections) Report findings to appropriate staff and ancillary departments.
- Maintains department office equipment and clinical equipment. Orders additional equipment as needed. Maintains knowledge of department service line, equipment and supplies.
- Maintains an inventory of departmental supplies (including forms, equipment, and instruments). Ensures that supplies have been ordered, received, and stored in appropriate supply area(s) and orders department supplies in PMM.
- Receives incoming telephone calls; screens and appropriately routes calls to department staff, patients, and medical staff. Relays messages accurately and efficiently to clinical staff. Acts as a liaison to ancillary departments to develop communication patterns and to troubleshoot problems as they arise.
- Makes arrangements for curtain cleaning, pest control services, dry cleaning for physician scrubs, need for additional housekeeping supplies or furniture cleaning as well as coordinates with other departments to borrow supplies.
- Notifies transportation for STAT pickups, deliveries to other department or pickup from another department to DHC. Reviews Quest lab sheet and calls for pickup.
- Bakes and packages cookies for patients post – procedure.
- Assists with department asset tracking.
- Faxes chart information to physicians’ offices as needed. Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Places calls for additional staff as needed.
- Analyzes requests and directs those requests and unresolved issues to appropriate resources.
- Keeps logs of volunteers and nursing students on the unit and faxes f/u paperwork to appropriate entities. Enhances professional growth and development by attending and actively participating in all required facility drills, meetings and in-service training programs.
