What are the responsibilities and job description for the Float Maintenance/Floor Technician position at STORY COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER?

As a Float Maintenance/Floor Technician you will:
- Use all equipment for hard floor care and carpet care properly and according to manufacturer’s instructions, cleaning each piece of equipment used daily.
- Handle/mix all chemicals required for hard floor care and carpet care appropriately, safely, and as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Communicate with Director of Environmental Services or designee, any issues with equipment and progress on projects assigned daily.
- Maintain a clean and orderly janitorial closet, cart, and work area.
- Communicate with employees and/or guests in the area where projects are being completed, informing the resident/employee of the length of time they will be in the area.
- Work as a team member to accomplish all projects assigned through management.
- Cross train in specific areas of Story Medical and prove proficiency.
- Attend department meetings and in-services as scheduled.
- Maintain effective communication with nursing staff, medical staff, and all other hospital departments.
- Maintain and promote professionalism within the department, Story Medical, and community.
- Perform minor repairs on buildings, cabinet hardware, plumbing, electrical and mechanical items.
- Perform functions as they relate to the facility grounds, including but not limited to mowing, snow removal, trimming, and weeding.
- Move furniture and/or equipment.
- Paint and remodels hospital areas as needed.
- Cooperate with Director of Facilities and other employees to maintain equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Display considerable initiative and judgment involved in determining extent of repairs as may be required on all equipment and buildings selecting appropriate materials, and utilizing the most effective methods, techniques and procedures when required to complete job assignments.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, resident, and personnel information.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Fluent in both oral and written English communication
- Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Completion of trade school course or trade apprenticeship program
- Floor cleaning experience
- Familiar with building maintenance techniques as applied to systems and equipment
