Story Medical Center has an exciting opportunity for you as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)! Located in Nevada, Iowa, our Medical Center delivers high quality healthcare in a community-oriented manner in more than two dozen services and specialties.
As a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) you will:
- Perform complex laboratory procedures utilized for the diagnosis and treatment of disease as appropriate for patient age to include neonate, infant, child and adolescent, adult and geriatric adult; recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles.
- Analyze quality control data, make judgments concerning the results and take appropriate action to maintain test accuracy and precision.
- Assist and support quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives.
- Perform preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting of instrumentation and equipment; as well as instrument and procedural calibrations.
- Support training of new employees and/or student interns.
- Maintain effective communication with all Story Medical departments. Communicate with other members of the health care team to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all patient, resident, personnel information, and all other hospital information.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Associate’s degree in clinical laboratory science for an MLT or Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or chemical, physical, or biological science required for an MLS.
- Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT). Certification must be achieved within 6 months of hire.
- Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS). Certification must be achieved within 6 months of hire.
- Mandatory Reporter Certificate within 90 days of hire.
- Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Ability to maintain a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, physicians, patients, residents, volunteers, and visitors.
- Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
