What are the responsibilities and job description for the Secondary Roads Summer Help position at Story County?
Performs manual work mowing, assisting with repairing roadways, maintaining buildings, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Road Maintenance Superintendent. Hours are Monday - Thursday 6:30 am - 5:00 pm. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of pick-up trucks, single axle dump trucks (if CDL is obtained), tractors, tractor and push mowers; general knowledge of various shop tools and various carpenter tools; general knowledge of building maintenance; ability to operate equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

- Performs manual labor tasks on various crews: tile, brush, sign crews, maintenance crews.
- Assists mechanic on repairs of equipment.
- Services vehicles, including oil changes, tire repairs, washing and maintaining the equipment, and keeping accurate records.
- Cleans shop, including custodial tasks like sweeping, washing, and picking up tools.
- Helps maintain building repairs by painting and replacing broken structures.
- Mows grounds around facilities as well as mowing county roadways using county equipment.
- Picks up garbage throughout the County as needed.
- Helps with traffic control during projects.
- Hauls rock and dirt using a single axle truck (CDL required).
