The lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.
Reports to:
Aquatics Program Director
Essential Job Functions:
1. Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies
2. Respond to emergencies following facility emergency action plan
3. Follow facility rules and regulations in all areas
4. Be thorough in daily observance of the facility and its users
5. Understand the facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures
6. Inspect facility daily to ensure its safety
7. Oversee check in process and collect fees from patrons as needed
8. Ensure the facility opens and closes on time
9. Follow opening and closing procedures
10. Accurately complete all necessary records and reports
11. Exercise regularly to maintain fitness level for strength and endurance
12. Attend staff meetings and training as required
13. Make sure Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR certifications are maintained according to facility policy
14. Work independently and cooperatively with staff, patrons and other personal
15. Provide cleanup requirements as asked in the event of an emergency
16. Comply with the staff rules and procedures as defined in the employee handbook

1. All other duties as assigned which relate to the functions of the job

Job Requirements Qualifications:
1. Current Certification in Life guarding from a nationally recognized association (Red Cross, YMCA, Ellis etc)
2. Current Certification in First Aid and CPR for professionals from a nationally recognized association (AHA, Red Cross etc.)
3. Ability to respond to emergencies in a professional and mature manner
4. Posses leadership and public relations skills
5. Posses appropriate decision making skills
6. Effective verbal and written communication skills
7. Ability to follow directions
Requirements of Essential Functions:
Occasional (1-33%) bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, walking, squatting reaching and stair climbing in order to perform essential job functions
Lifting: 0-10 pounds constantly (66-100%)
10-25 pounds frequently (34-66%)
Over 50 pounds occasionally (1-33%)
