SUMMARY
The Design Engineering Manager position assumes responsibility for the development, implementation and administration of projects and programs that are assigned to the Design Engineering Department. Essential responsibilities for this position include providing strategic direction to the department, ensuring design products in support of operations, maintenance, and strategic projects organizations are performed in a timely manner, are complete, and with appropriate technical rigor. The design products are essential to disposition of major equipment obsolescence, degraded / non-conforming conditions, and to maintain plant reliability currently and through the period of extended operation for the station.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Required). Mechanical, electrical, nuclear, civil, or chemical engineering (Preferred)
- Master's degree in technical discipline (Preferred)
EXPERIENCE
12 years engineering or maintenance or operations experience in which 8 years is in a nuclear power plant (Required)4 years' experience in Design Engineering organization. (Required)Note : One (1) year experience may be credited for an engineering master's degree, two (2) years' experience may be credited for an engineering PhD degree.

NUCLEAR OVERSIGHT MANAGEMENT :
Responsible for providing leadership for design, maintaining documentation, and process improvements.Oversees complex safety evaluations and significant hazards review for plant issues.Provides technical oversight for degraded / non-conforming component disposition, including extent of the condition and its effect on the component's ability to perform the required design function.Reviews and approves causal investigations to condition reports for completeness and required actions.Reviews and approves engineering documentation (e.g. : calculations, specifications, analysis, drawings, evaluations, etc.).Responsible for the site's configuration management program.Design authority for the Station.Reviews industry documentation and event reports for relevant application to STP and identifies appropriate actions for STP.Reviews and approves reportability and operability reviews of station issues and ensures they are evaluated to applicable regulatory requirementsPerforms reviews of operating experience reports and license amendment changes.Provides oversight for technical reports to be submitted to Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).Provides strategic oversight and plans for Design Engineering Department.PEOPLE MANAGEMENT :
Ensures development plans are in place and followed.Performs personnel activities for direct reports (promotions, salary changes, counseling, performance appraisals).Prepares and delivers oral and written communications relating to work group and station activities (e.g., reports, presentations, department meetings).Monitors work group reports and recommendations to assure evaluations, assessments and support are effectively developed and communicated.Develops and maintains appropriate technical expertise within the work group to ensure adequate talent to perform meaningful assessments and program oversight.Represents department / company on internal work teams and committees and with external entities.Maintains composure in high stress or adverse situations.Understands and implements company policies.Provides employees with tools and training necessary for them to perform their assignments.FISCAL ACCOUNTABILITY :
Maintains fiscal records and procedures of the department to ensure the effective and efficient operations.

Environmental and physical requirements are subject to crouching, stooping, bending, twisting and / or lifting up to 30 lbs; ascending / descending stairs; sitting for extended periods of time; and spending considerable time in front of computer monitors.WORKING CONDITIONS
