The Systems & Applications Engineer will provide engineering level support for servers, applications, and desktop infrastructure. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, this role will implement and maintain the firm’s current and next generation of network systems and applications that support the delivery of the firm’s legal services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Systems & Applications Engineer will be able to perform these essential functions:
SYSTEMS ENGINEERING
- Produce and maintain high-quality documentation and reports (e.g., technical installation, network maintenance, problem resolution, system changes, etc.).
- Analyze system logs to identify potential issues with core systems; works with teammates to take appropriate corrective action to resolve the issues.
- Functions as triage escalation point to resolve issues escalated from the technical support team.
- Maintain Active Directory (DHCP, DNS) and group policies within a Windows networking environment.
- Take ownership of the certificate renewal process (Internally and externally).
- Manage and ensure health and operability of servers and data, including SAN, e-mail, database, web, print, virtual (VMware & HyperV), remote access and backup technologies, and their associated operating systems and software.
APPLICATIONS ENGINEERING
- Management, administration, and operational support of the M365/Entra environment (e.g., O365, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.).
- Act as an escalation point for all M365 issues; mentor IT staff to build their M365 skills.
- Follow the Microsoft M365 roadmap and advise of upcoming changes and developments that may impact the Firm, documenting Microsoft applications lifecycle for the Firm’s environment.
- Researching technology trends, emerging best practices and roadmaps and ensuring these are made available as inputs to the IT strategy and future designs for M365 technologies.
- Assist desktop engineers with application deployments and upgrades; monitor deployment data to ensure applications are deployed properly and timely.
- Responsible for architecting, Implementing, and maintaining systems automation solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Five years or more of relevant engineering experience including one year working in a law firm or professional services business.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field is preferred.
- Solid knowledge of IT operations including IT security, network engineering, and production operations support.
- Hands-on, proven experience with the following:
- Strong Microsoft Cloud technology skills including AutoPilot, AlwaysOn VPN, BitLocker, Intune MDM and MAM, Defender ATP, Windows Virtual Desktop, and System Center.
- Strong skills in Microsoft 365 Collaboration Services (O365, Exchange, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint)
- Windows 11, Windows 2016/2019/2022 server, and networking experience in a complex, multi-vendor network environment.
- SAN and Storage Management.
- DNS, DHCP and Group Policies in Active Directory.
- Virtual environments with Hyper-V and VMware vSphere Enterprise, Operations and Update Management and vCenter 8.0.
- Network security with Windows 2012/2016/2019 servers, Fortinet firewalls and switches.
- Self-motivated and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills, excellent customer service skills and a willingness to collaborate with others.
