Warehouse Associate

Job Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit

Reports to: Warehouse Director & Warehouse Managers

Schedule: 6:15AM-2:45PM, 40 hours per week, weekend availability will be required as the warehouse is currently open on Sundays.

Location: Strand’s warehouse is located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, accessible via the N or R trains.

Strand Bookstore’s Brooklyn warehouse is the lifeblood of our business. It’s where everything begins. Warehouse Associates ensure the proper picking, labeling and packing of books and merchandise for all Strand locations. They not only unload and unpack items but also receive them into our inventory. Acute attention to detail is critical in this role as warehouse associates are responsible for the integrity of our inventory. The warehouse also builds all of our monthly subscription boxes which means packaging individual customers orders with accuracy.

Essential Functions:

• Picking and transferring stock for daily replenishment to each store
• Unloading and sorting shipments in a timely manner
• Accurately receiving, tagging and sorting items into warehouse stock
• Loading and unloading daily replenishment on/off the truck
• Verifying invoices match items received
• Building subscription boxes both quarterly and monthly

Competency/Position Requirements:

• Minimum 1 year of warehouse experience.
• Ability to lift, carry, push and pull 25-50 lb carts and boxes on a daily basis.
• Must be able to complete tasks with speed, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to lift items or merchandise weighing up to and between 10-50 lbs.
• Comfortable standing for long periods of time.
• Can be trusted to work independently while also maintaining a sense of urgency and concentration as needed.
• Proven success with computers and data entry
• Available to work 40 hours per week.
• Weekend shifts are a requirement for this position.

Compensation: $17 per hour
