As the Director of Construction, you will lead a team of professionals providing preconstruction support, estimating, construction project management and contract oversight for utility scale solar, and battery energy storage projects. You will be involved in oversight for all phases of facility construction, from pre-construction design and planning through commissioning and closeout. You will be responsible for representing the company with a variety of project partners and stakeholders. You will be responsible for the performance and execution of all construction operations across the EPC portfolio, establishment of departmental and project budgets, and hands-on involvement with process and system improvements to a rapidly growing company with national operations.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Collaborates closely with the Engineering and Procurement teams to define and refine scopes and prepare and manage BOP/BOS RFP processes for wind, solar and battery energy storage systems
- Works closely to prioritize key activities on projects across the company portfolio in various stages from design through closeout
- Ensures on-time project delivery and excellent status communication and reporting to internal parties and clients
- Coordinates with other department heads and senior management, to ensure projects are properly designed, planned, and completed
- Assembles presentation materials and reports for Senior Management on the status and risks for the construction projects
- Ensures projects meet requirements for budgeting
- Works with other departments and personnel to develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, analysis, and reporting of projects cost- to -complete
- Works with Project Managers and site leads to manage change orders as they arise, review, and monitor quality control processes and deliver oral and written reports as requested or contractually required
- Expert understanding of contractual terms, estimating, cost management, project scheduling and the supervision of project teams
- Leads and coordinates key functions such as financial feasibility analyses, engineering/design, project legal review, permitting activities and financial negotiations
- Prepares and submits requests for proposals, in addition to direction and oversight of the pre-construction teams
- Supports the responses to Requests for Proposals and support the bid process to negotiate new projects
- Works with internal and external parties to negotiate the final contractual scope and deliverables and complete engineering design reviews for compliance to contract and scope of work
- Qualifies, negotiates, and secures contracts with subcontractors; oversees the procurement and/or equipment and materials
- Establishes and maintains relationships with subcontractors and clients
- In coordination with Health and Safety team, drives safety culture by addressing safety concerns and implementing safety improvement measures
- Successfully implements Health, Safety and Security program plans, practices, and objectives
- Participates in the development and implementation of safety and quality plans and procedures
- Ensures Environmental compliance on all projects
- Reviews Safety Management Systems, Quality Management Systems and Environment Management Systems
- Promotes a safe work environment to show that safety is the most important function, ensuring that all employees follow safe practices
- Participates in the identification and selection of the senior project teams, on-site leads and assists in the specification of labor classifications and personnel needs
- Oversight and direct communications with owners, site operations, subcontractors, and superintendents
- Mentors and trains staff on project control tools to effectively manage project costs, schedules, scopes, change orders and inspires a culture of disciplined attention to detail and frequent contract referencing to support contractor management and generation of management reports
- Helps with employee relations, performance reviews, recruiting
- Provides and facilitates mentoring, development, and training resources; participates in implementation and development of “First Time Right” training initiatives
- Minimum 10 to 15 years Solar Construction Experience including a minimum of 5 years P&L responsibility
- Engineering Degree or Construction Management Major preferred
- PMI/PMP certification a plus
- Knowledge of OSHA safety and construction regulations. OSHA 30 certification preferred
- Experience and proficiency with MS Office including MS Excel and MS Word
- Knowledge of state and utility rules and incentives with respect to renewables
- Solid knowledge and understanding of key value drivers for renewable power projects and developer/owner/operator company objectives
- Strong oral and written communication, project management, leadership, and team-building skills, including experience working with cross-functional internal and external technical advisors and stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, edit, and understand plans and specifications for civil and electrical work
- Experience with managing renewable energy construction contracts including change order management and dispute resolutions
- Experienced with managing and driving project schedules
- Exhibited success with process development and implementation, change management and growth
- Experience within renewable energy, general contracting, or commercial construction
- Detailed oriented, analytical, organized, able to meet established deadlines, strong communication skills, and works well in pressure-type situations
- Thrives in the fast pace rapidly growing company
- Patient and professional in stressful, deadline-driven situations
- Lead and support the site teams in technical, quality and safety, using systems in place
- Ability to represent the company before clients, external agencies, and among this organization’s executive staff
