The Logistics Import/Export Specialist is responsible for managing and coordinating the transportation of goods across international borders. The role ensures compliance with relevant regulations, ensures timely delivery, and collaborates with internal teams and external partners (such as freight forwarders and customs brokers) to ensure smooth operations. This role is crucial in ensuring that international supply chains run efficiently and cost-effectively, with a focus on compliance, cost management, and operational efficiency. 

  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor import and export shipments from origin to destination.
  • Work closely with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other logistics partners.
  • Schedule pick-ups and deliveries to ensure timely shipments and minimize delays.
  • Ensure all necessary documents are correctly prepared and submitted for customs clearance.
  • Stay updated on import/export regulations, tariffs, and restrictions.
  • Resolve any customs clearance issues that arise during the shipment process.
  • Track inventory of goods in transit and coordinate with warehouse teams to ensure proper stock management.
  • Communicate with suppliers, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure timely replenishment of stock.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records of shipments, invoices, and any other related documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with international trade laws and company policies.
  • Maintain records of import and export activities for auditing purposes.
  • Monitor shipping costs and work to optimize transportation expenses without compromising delivery times.
  • Negotiate with freight carriers and shipping companies for competitive rates and services.
  • Address any issues or delays in the import/export process, including damaged goods, incorrect documentation, or shipment delays.
  • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies or claims regarding shipments.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for logistics-related inquiries from customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure smooth and timely communication between internal departments (sales, finance, etc.) and external partners (customs authorities, carriers, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and import/export regulations related to hazardous materials and other restricted goods.
  • Implement best practices in logistics to minimize environmental impact.

Qualifications


  • High School diploma or equivalent. Preferably a bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field with 3 years’ experience in international logistics, importing/exporting, or global shipping coordination.
  • Knowledge of international trade regulations, customs requirements, and documentation.
  • Proficient in logistics and tracking platforms (e.g., DHL, FedEx, UPS,) and productivity tools (Outlook, Excel, project management software).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with Incoterms, tariffs, and international shipping standards.
  • Certification in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., CLTD, CSCP, etc.) preferred.
  • Familiarity with order fulfillment processes and MRP systems is a plus
  • Full-time, office-based role, with possible travel to meet with logistics partners or visit warehouses.
  • May involve working with tight deadlines and handling high-pressure situations during peak seasons.
