What are the responsibilities and job description for the Satellite Network Architect position at Strategic ACI?
Strategic ACI is seeking an on-site Satellite Network Architect to provide expert technical leadership and guidance in the design, integration, and evolution of satellite communications networks supporting global commercial and government operations. This role centers on shaping system architectures, evaluating legacy and emerging technologies, and ensuring strategic alignment with mission objectives — not physical implementation or hands-on construction.
The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of SATCOM systems, network architectures and the ability to assess complex trade-offs across legacy and next-gen technologies, along with a passion for staying ahead of industry trends. You will help guide the direction of SATCOM solutions by influencing design decisions, validating architectural approaches, and aligning technical capabilities with operational goals.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a key technical authority on satellite communications systems, with a focus on integrating current and emerging satellite and ground network capabilities, and guiding decisions on architecture and lifecycle evolution. Evaluate and compare legacy infrastructure with emerging technologies to determine optimal paths for performance, reliability, and mission fit.
- Shape and validate satellite network architectures including gateway selection, baseband system integration (including NIPR, SIPR, JWICS networks), and payload planning. Translate mission and user requirements into viable system designs across hardware, software, and communications protocols.
- Offer expertise on SATCOM trends and implementation approaches across both commercial and government sectors.
- Develop frameworks and technical approaches for evolving satellite ground infrastructure, with attention to risk, interoperability, and long-term viability.
- Engage in technical forums, program reviews, and design discussions to ensure alignment with both strategic objectives and technical best practices.
Required Qualifications
- TS/SCI Clearance.
- United States Citizen.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent military Signal experience).
- 10 years of experience in satellite communications, systems engineering, or network architecture roles.
- 2 years of experience within a Trojan Network Operations Center (TNOC) or equivalent operational support environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical tasks or small projects, providing both architectural insight and organizational coordination.
- Demonstrated experience supporting the Department of Defense or other national security customers in satellite or tactical communications roles.
- In-depth knowledge of SATCOM architecture and signal flow, including:
- Ground infrastructure (e.g., baseband, gateways, terminals)
- MILSATCOM operations and encryption technologies
- Integration of tactical network systems
- Familiarity with DISN services and secure networks (VoIP, VoSIP, VTC, NIPR, SIPR, JWICS).
- Ability to assess, compare, and recommend technologies based on mission alignment, scalability, and sustainment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical recommendations clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
Preferred Experience
- Experience reviewing or influencing SATCOM payload configurations.
- Familiarity with modernization initiatives in the military communications landscape.
- Insight into cross-domain integration between airborne, ground, and command center networks.
