The Content Experience Designer plays a crucial role in modernizing education by creating visually engaging learning materials and interactions to enhance the student experience in our online learning environment. This role leverages a blend of skills, including visual design, UI / UX, and instructional design to create a course room that is intuitive, visually appealing, and engaging.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Design and develop engaging, interactive, and intuitive online learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to create instructional content that meets learning objectives.
  • Apply principles of instructional design, visual design, and UI / UX to create user-friendly and visually appealing content.
  • Conduct user research and usability testing to gather feedback and improve learning experiences.
  • Develop and maintain design documentation, including storyboards, wireframes, and prototypes.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in instructional design, visual design, and UI / UX.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including interactive designers, instructional designers, learning technologists, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of content.

Job Skills :

  • Experience in visual design, UI / UX, and instructional design, preferably in an online adult learning environment.
  • Experience with web standards technologies, including creating solutions with HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, and e-authoring tools.
  • Strong understanding of learning theories and instructional design models.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Previous experience completing projects with cross-functional teams is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with e-learning platforms and LMS. Experience with Canvas design elements and patterns to modernize and enhance interactivity is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Work Experience :

    2-4 years of related experience in an adult learning environment.

    Education :

    A bachelor's degree in Education, Graphic Design, or a related field is required; a master's degree or equivalent experience is preferred.

    Other :

  • Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles travel would not be common. Travel may involve plane, car or metro. In accordance with ADA policies, reasonable accommodations regarding travel limitations can be provided. Travel will be more common for roles such as Account Executives (25 - 50%), senior leaders (10 - 20%) or Capella Core Faculty (5 - 10%).
  • Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs.
  • If offsite or hybrid role, must have access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.
  • Faculty and Federal Work Study roles require access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including computer, privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.
  • This role may require lifting, however reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with our ADA policies.
  • Must be able to meet critical thinking and problem solving aspects aligned to job duties, as well as effectively communicating with co-workers.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant. Accommodations related to schedule may be considered.
  • Able to access information using a computer.
  • Other essential functions and marginal job functions are subject to modification.
