What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chess Instructor position at Strategic Kids?
JOB DESCRIPTION
Strategic Kids Chess Instructors teach K-5 Grade children how to play, enjoy, and improve at the royal game of chess through fun story-based chess lessons at public, private, and charter schools around Lake Stevens and Everett.
EXPERIENCE
Applicants should have experience with the game of chess, and working/volunteering with children. Preferred experiences include teaching groups of elementary ages children, classroom management skills, and having a firm grasp of chess strategies and tactics: types of checkmates, opening principals, pin tactics, etc.
WORK SCHEDULE
Work three or more days per week, M-F, afterschool. Most classes meet between 3:00pm to 5:00pm! New classes open up during the school year and summer. Many classes are eight or more weeks and 60 minutes each week.
HOURLY RATE
$23 per hour
Strategic Kids pays an additional 30 minutes for set up and clean up at each school.
PAID MILEAGE
Strategic Kids pays daily Enrichment Instructor rates for mileage of $10 to $20, based on the distance driving ($10 daily, or $15 if the drive is 15 miles from home to school, or $20 if the drive is 20 miles from home to school).
MATERIALS
Chess Instructors will be given Strategic Chess resources, from a demo board and chess suitcase to instructional chess videos, so that you will be ready to teach students how to learn and improve at chess! All Enrichment Chess Instructors will be given all necessary materials, such as trophies and prizes.
REQUIREMENTS
> 18 years old or older
> Speak English
> Have a reliable car to drive to assigned school(s)
> Pass Fingerprint Background check (paid for by Strategic Kids)

SCHOOL-YEAR WORK
There are instructor opportunities to work during the school-year and year-round at summer camps or special tournament events!
