Job Summary
SMSI is hiring Process / Mechanical Engineers and Piping Designers in Greenville, South Carolina. The purpose of these positions is to plan, organize, and coordinate process/mechanical engineering and multi-disciplined team/design projects while engaged in the planning, design, and construction phases of engineering projects through project startup. This position requires travel, with mobility of greater than 25% to client sites in Aiken, SC (Savannah River Site), and Houston, Texas.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and coordinate process/mechanical engineering and multi-disciplined team/design projects while engaged in the planning, design, and construction phases of engineering projects through project startup.
- Prepare and review calculations and specifications relating to P&ID development.
- Demonstrate design experience in areas such as, but not limited to mechanical systems, water and waste systems, domestic water, rainwater, fuel and gas systems, drainage piping and sizing drainage systems, and equipment design.
- Generate and review the accuracy of design/evaluation calculations, and specifications.
- Familiarity with computer aided drafting applications is required.
- Conduct construction document reviews as required.
Required Skills
- This position requires travel, with mobility of greater than 25% to client sites in South Carolina (Savannah River Site). Occasionally, trips to client office in Houston may also be required.
- Working knowledge of Federal (including Department of Energy). preferred but not required.
- Must have experience with piping systems, complex drainage systems, including piping systems addressing criticality in the event of spills or emergency event and stormwater drainage, sanitary and portable water systems.
- Experience working in the nuclear industry is preferred but not required.
- The candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Q clearance is required.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, with a minimum of 3 to 5 or more years of experience in engineering and/or design, estimating, specification preparation, construction document preparation, and related phases of engineering.
- Professional Engineering License preferred, but not required.
